What this letter basically does is tell them to stop calling you and to stop writing you. They must comply under the FDCPA.
Yes you can get rid of any third party debt collector that is harassing you for payment of your debt. This is not a freebie to not pay your bills. This is for you to get rid of the collector. This letter will work for all States.
*Most sites do not warn you that once you send this you are basically telling them hey go away come and sue me! You are telling them not to call you or write you so if you are lucky they will go away.. however, they may come right back and sue you.
It is easy for someone to throw this up on a website and say hey you can use this to get collection agencies to stop harassing you. That much is true but be careful if you use the letter. Only you know what situation you are in and if these collectors are totally harassing you by all means use it. It is your right to do so.
Once collectors receive this letter they must stop calling you. They must stop writing you. They must stop all communication with you PERIOD. They cannot even put this on your credit report any longer or they are in violations.
Some collectors who get this will go, crap this person knows their rights we are backing off.
Other collectors will say ok we must comply now let's sue them!
So, be careful using this letter. We are not saying you shouldn't use it but take a look at your letter and make sure this is what you want to do.
